This book was okay. It took a long time before anything happened, but by the end I considered reading the next book in the series.
The first 2/3 of the book was set up and back story. Although it might have been important, I wish it had been handled differently. Maybe let it filter in a little at a time as Avery interacted with the new people she meets.
Here's what I liked:
~The world building was good. Martucci could see it and as a reader I could too.
~There is potential here for an amazing story. Like I said, by the end I was intrigued enough to think about picking up the next one. I haven't, but I thought about it.
~There is conflict here once you get past the back story.
By the end of the story I think the writing improved a little. I'd be interested in seeing the author's growth over the series.
